The star has given the entirety of his £25k honor prize money to the trust for venues, which works to protect the Britain's independent live music spots.

Fender was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function local spots played in his beginning days.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

These funds supported spaces that were facing possible closure due to challenges arising from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in improving infrastructure and gear that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from concerts in big venues helps the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

He is far from the only musician to give his award funds to charitable organizations.

Back when the band earned the prize in the year 1996 for their record their work, frontman Cocker announced that the act would contribute their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her award among several organizations, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the community center that supported their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients the group contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the disease.

"The victory was ample," said artist the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning touched somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had saved a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The Joiners in the city and the second in the city were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by a national body and supporters who purchase "shares" in the properties.
